Thermal Paper Characteristic Features
Thermal paper has a curling nature. This is as a result of the manner in which it is packaged by its manufacturing companies. They are packaged in rolls which alter its original state before it can get to its final users. This consequently makes it difficult for it to be handled.
It is very sensitive to damage and therefore is covered with protective layers. This helps immensely to at least prevent minor attacks of any form on it but can be broken through by stronger ones. Not all thermal papers necessarily require protective layers. Some which are used for ATM cards by banks and credit cards do not require this protection.
- It has thermal coatings where it is coated with chemicals. The chemicals are essential in the formation of images on the paper. These chemicals are harmful to human health and therefore should be avoided.
- There’s an initial coating on its base paper known as the under-coating. It is also referred to as the UC layer. It brings about the smoothness of base paper and with the smoothness of the base paper; the thermal paper brings forth a nice quality image.
- It uses heat in the formation of images.
- It has a base paper which is one of the most important components.
